Military investigators report a survival benefit in patients with major limb trauma with emergency tourniquets used in hemorrhage control. The Effects of Trauma Center Care, Admission Volume, and Surgical Volume on Paralysis After Traumatic Spinal Cord Injury.
We studied 4121 patients diagnosed with traumatic spinal cord injury, who were treated in 100 trauma centers and 601 nontrauma centers to evaluate the compliance with American College of Surgeons triage guidelines and whether trauma center designation, hospital traumatic spinal cord injury case volume, or spinal surgery volume is associated with paralysis. Only 57.9% (n = 2378) of patients received care at a designated trauma center.
